Former Tech Players Get a Break on Burglary Charge

If three former Texas Tech football players stay out of trouble, they will no longer face formal charges for a home burglary case.  A homeowner filed a police report that said sometime between December 20 and January 9 someone broke into his home in the 4300 block of 43rd Street.  A number of guns were stolen.

In May, Texas Tech announced that Robert Castaneda, Trace Ellison and Dakota Allen were removed from the football team for failure to uphold student athlete standards.  Criminal charges came later.

Officials and court records have said that the three players have been offered pre-trial diversion.  That means the charges are dropped.  If Castaneda, Ellison and Allen complete community service and stay out of trouble then that’s the end of the matter.  If they get into trouble again, prosecutors have the discretion to re-file the charges.
