A Bennett Elementary School teacher became the subject of controversy after her Facebook post went viral and generated a negative response.

Tuesday afternoon, Karen Fitzgibbons, posted her opinion on the recent pool party incident in McKinney to Facebook. She was responding after Police Corporal David Eric Casebolt made national news and was accused of excessive force for his treatment of a girl. He resigned Tuesday.

The Fitzgibbons post said:

This makes me ANGRY! This officer should not have to resign. I’m going to just go ahead and say it… The blacks are the ones causing the problems and this ‘racial tension.’ I guess that is what happens when you flunk out of school and have no education. I’m sure their parents are just as guilty for not knowing what their kids were doing; or knew it and didn’t care. I’m almost to the point of wanting them all segregated on one side of town so they can hurt each other and leave the innocent people alone. Maybe the 50s and 60s were really on to something, Now, let the bashing of my true and honest opinion begin …GO! #imnotracist #imsickofthemcausingtrouble #itwasagatedcommunity

EverythingLubbock.com called Fitzgibbons Wednesday night. She said this is “blown out of proportion and I don’t have any comment about it.”

Frenship ISD media director, Andy Penney, sent us this statement Wednesday night.

He said, “FISD cannot speak to specific personnel matters, but situations dealing with employee electronic use are taken seriously by our district. Policies and procedures were created so that FISD can respond to employee electronic used situations in a timely and appropriate manner.”

Fitzgibbons’ Facebook page has been deactivated.

As one example of the negative response to Fitzgibbons, Charlene Johnson wrote on Facebook, “How can she teach the same race she would love to segregate?”

Elena Monreal said on Facebook, “And she’s a teacher?”

Some of the comments supported Fitzgibbons.

For example, Rebecca White wrote, “Poor woman. Telling the truth gets you fired.”
