On Monday, February 29, the South Plains Council, Boy Scouts of America, will welcome Dallas Cowboy Hall of Famer Randy White to Lubbock to serve as the guest speaker for the annual Friends of Scouting Luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center.

“Throughout his career, Randy White exemplified the Boy Scout oath of working to become physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight,” said Nathan Baie, Scout Executive for the South Plains Council. “He is a great role model for today’s youth.”

White, an All-America defensive end at the University of Maryland in 1974, was the Dallas Cowboys’ first pick and the second player selected in the 1975 National Football League Draft. He capped his first season as a regular by being named as the co-Most Valuable Player in the Cowboys’ 27-10 win over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XII. That year he began a string of nine straight seasons running through 1985 as an All-Pro selection. He also was named to nine straight Pro Bowls during that span.

The Friends of Scouting Luncheon is a way to thank the community for its support as well as help the South Plains Council raise the funds necessary to continue its mission to build character, citizenship and personal fitness with Lubbock’s youth.

For more than 90 years the South Plains Council has dedicated itself to preparing young people to fulfill their potential. The values of the Boy Scouts of America have remained solid for over a century and are the foundation in which the next century of Scouting is built upon.

Generations of young people have reaped the benefits of the time tested Scouting programs, and the legacy of the Boy Scouts will continue through the financial support of the community.

Every cent raised by the South Plains Council stays in the South Plains.
