Friends of Tyrone Carter Think He’s Innocent Despite DNA Match

On Thursday, the U.S. Marshals arrested 43-year-old Tyrone TK Carter and charged him with aggravated kidnapping and assault of a 16-year-old.

Records show that Carter chained the girl to the front seat of his car, took her to an abandoned apartment complex near the Coronado Village and raped her multiple times. The girl was able to escape and flag down a Lubbock Police Officer.

Police obtained a warrant for Carter’s DNA, test results came back matching Carter on March 7.

Carter lived at the Coronado Village Apartments in January when the incident happened. Friend of Carter’s and resident of Coronado, Jamaceeo Owens said he doesn’t think Carter is capable of doing such a thing.

“He wouldn’t do anything in that nature to hurt a child because I’ve seen him interact with children of my own,” Owens said. “He’s played with my daughter and he didn’t do anything, none of what they accused him of doing.”

Owens said he worked as a mechanic while living at Coronado Village, and would give anyone the clothes off their back if they needed it.

“He was actually teaching me how to change a tire, I knew nothing about that stuff but he was teaching me,” Owens said.

Coronado’s leasing manager, Lisa Sandoval said Carter somehow slipped between the cracks of their leasing process, and that he lied on his application. Police arrested him on January 13 for failure to ID and possessing marijuana. He was able to post bond for those charges on February 2.

“As soon as he got arrested with the possession of marijuana charge we found out him and his wife had a little bit of a background, we got rid of them as soon as we discovered they lied on their application.”

Carter’s bond is $500,000. Owens said he plans to visit him in jail.

“He wouldn’t do nothing like that, that’s not TK,” Owens said. “Even though he’s locked up I’m still going to visit him, that’s my friend, he’s a good friend to me.”
