The 84th Legislative Session ended on a high note for State Representative John Frullo (R-Lubbock). One of his key measures defending knife owners’ rights received overwhelming support from both legislative chambers and earned him the coveted Knife Rights’ Freedom’s Edge Award.
H.B. 905 was filed by Frullo to address some troubling local knife ordinances that created confusion for knife owners in Texas. The bill requires knife laws be uniform throughout the state, therefore eliminating any confusion over knife ordinances and prohibiting a city or county from passing overly strict knife laws. In recognition of this achievement, Frullo was awarded this year’s Knife Rights’ Freedom’s Edge Award. The recipient is chosen by Knife Rights and “honors a local, state, or national elected representative who has demonstrated their commitment to a sharper future by leadership in the fight to protect or enhance our knife rights,” according to Doug Ritter, Chairman and Executive Director for Knife Rights.
“I’m honored Knife Rights selected me for this prestigious award. It was my pleasure to work alongside Todd Rathner and the Knife Rights organization to pass a strong preemption law. Knife owners and users will no longer be subject to a confusing patchwork of local laws in Texas,” said Frullo.
H.B. 905 is now only awaiting Governor Abbott’s signature before it takes effect in September of 2015.
“This bill protects the liberty and freedom of Texas knife owners, and I’m grateful we were able to take steps to protect our knife rights and correct this issue,” Frullo said.
