Garth Brooks announced Wednesday that Lubbock would be a stop on his world tour in 2017.

People all over the area were excited that not only would Brooks be making a stop in West Texas, but Trisha Yearwood would be coming with him. The last time Brooks was in town was 1991.

United Supermarkets Arena Director Cindy Harper said the concert had been in the works since the venue opened in 1999.

“We’re really excited to be able to provide this opportunity to Texas Tech and the Lubbock community, but also excited for travel and tourism,” Harper said, “Folks will come from outside the region to this event. He [Garth] draws far and wide, and I know that he will. I know that this house is going to be full.”

EverythingLubbock.com spoke with several fans who couldn’t wait to get their hands on tickets.

“I’m super excited, I thought he had retired and he’s back!” Chandra York said, “I saw it on Facebook already today and tagged my boyfriend, so hopefully he’ll buy some tickets for us.”

Another fan said he can’t wait to see his favorite songs live and in-person.

“I’m most looking forward to ‘Friends in Low Places,'” Brodie Calley said.
