Lubbock Fire Rescue said natural gas supply was cut off to 49 homes Wednesday and some homes in the 4800 block of 62nd Street were evacuated “as a precautionary measure.”
A gas leak was reported and crews from Atmos Energy were able to stop the leak, according to LFR.
“A City of Lubbock pipeline maintenance crew working in the alley accidentally hit the line,” LRF said.
“Atmos will be going door to door to restore service,” LFR said.
Service can only be restored one home at a time for safety reasons. Atmos will ensure that pilot lights are properly lit for each residence as gas service is restored.
“Atmos reports that the affected houses are on the South side of 61st street and the North side of 62nd street from Utica to Wayne,” LFR said.
Earlier in the day, Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to O’Tool Industries at 1322 Erskine for a gas leak. Workers were temporarily evacuated. No cause was listed for the leak at O’Tool.
