The State Fire Marshal’s Office on Thursday was investigating a Joaquin house fire in which a 2-year-old girl died.
Joaquin Fire Chief Perry Pugh said the fire was Wednesday afternoon along Farm to Market road 3082 near Highway 7 E. Pugh by the time his department arrived, the mobile home was engulfed in flames.
Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Judge Margie Anderson identified the child as Roselyn Whittick. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The child’s mother, Raven Belinda Whitteck, 29, suffered burns to her hands and was taken to a Nacogdoches hospital.
A five-year-old boy was able to escape the fire with the help of another person staying in the home. He did not suffer any injuries.
