The Volunteer Center of Lubbock believes that the future of our community is in developing the next generation of leaders. On Saturday, April 16th, the Volunteer Center of Lubbock invites the community to participate in Global Youth Service Day (GYSD.)

Opportunities include baking and household chores at the Ronald McDonald House, assisting the Lubbock Dream Center with feeding the homeless, helping with carnival games, storytelling and art activities at the Literacy Lubbock Arts Festival booth, planting roses at the Volunteer Center and more.

GYSD has been dedicated to celebrating the service of children and youth annually since 1988. It has become the largest service event in the world, and it is the only day solely focused on encouraging children to serve. GYSD is celebrated each year in over 135 countries with people of all ages coming together to serve and improve their communities, according to the GYSD website.

“I love watching our families, youth, businesses and community leaders join together to work collectively on service projects that impact the community,” said VCL Service Coordinator, Paris Wright. “It’s another opportunity to connect with others that enjoy serving people in ways that impact their lives forever,” she said.

Everyone can have a hand in working toward a better future for the community.  We welcome people of all ages to get involved on this day of service. To find out about more projects or to register, visit the Volunteer Center website or contact Paris Wright at (806) 747-0551 or pwright@volunteerlubbock.org.

The Volunteer Center of Lubbock inspires a more engaged community by helping people find their purpose and act on it.  Last year, the Volunteer Center’s efforts impacted more than 39,000 people within our community. The Volunteer Center of Lubbock is a Lubbock Area United Way community partner.
