A good Samaritan might have made all the difference after someone intentionally set a Central Lubbock house on fire with people inside.

At 6:04 a.m. Monday morning Lubbock Fire responded to a house fire at the area of 44th and Avenue P. The assistant fire marshal later confirmed that the fire was intentionally set.

An eyewitness, who has asked to remain anonymous, shared with EverythingLubbock that he was in the neighborhood at 6:00 a.m. picking up a co-worker.

The witness said a man walked to a car that was parked near the home and placed a gas can in the backseat. The witness then realized that the side of the house was on fire. The witness followed the car and called Lubbock Police.

LPD told the eyewitness to stop following. Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to the home and put the fire out at 6:12 a.m.

The witness described the man as a slender, black male wearing jeans and a white T-shirt.  He was not able to identify the make or model of the vehicle – only that it was a small car.

According to the homeowners, the fire was set outside their 21-year-old son’s bedroom.

No damage was done to the inside of the home from the fire. There were five family members who live at the residence, but only four were in the home at the time.  The youngest resident was three-years-old.

“We ran out. I don’t know how the fire was started but all I know is that I do have a grand baby in this house. And whoever did it, I want caught,” said the homeowner, who has also chosen to remain anonymous. “It could have really killed my whole family in this house, and we have never ever done anything to anybody. I really don’t understand.”
