City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation will be hosting a Grand Re-Opening and Open House for the Lubbock Adult Activity Center (formerly Lubbock Senior Center) on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Join us as we celebrate the completion of our year-long renovation. We will start off with special guests and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by tours of the center, refreshments, music and demonstrations. Learn about our great activities and programs, as you see the wonderful updates to our facility. Along with our new look and to encourage seniors both young and old to enjoy the many programs we offer, we have changed the name of the center to Lubbock Adult Activity Center.
Completed renovations of the approximately 18,200 square-foot interior included new floor coverings, wall painting and texture, ceiling, electrical including lighting, HVAC systems, an addition to the men’s restrooms, a renovated kitchen area, updated furnishings and a fire sprinkler system. The exterior renovations included new windows, painting, benches and a roofing system.
Lubbock Adult Activity Center is for adults ages 50 and above with some programming for ages 40 and above. Activities include a senior lunch program at noon served Monday-Friday, transportation to our centers for adults ages 60 and above, recreation and games, T’ai Chi Chih, fitness equipment and classes, cooking classes, arts and crafts, pool and snooker, computer classes, Thursday night dances with live country-western music and special events.
Lubbock Adult Activity Center is located at 2001 19th Street. Hours of operation are Monday and Wednesday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
