Patients who survive Hodgkin’s lymphoma face a higher risk of developing a second type of cancer. The Institute of Cancer Research said the most common include lung, breast and skin cancers, as well as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The study said the risk is highest for patients with a family history of those diseases.
Children who spend three or more hours a day looking at screens may face more risk factors for developing diabetes. A study in the U.K. said those factors include higher body fat as well as insulin resistance. They suggest reducing screen time may reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes.
Having children may lead to a longer life. A study in Sweden followed more than a million people and found that being a parent may extend life expectancy for seniors by as much as two years. Researchers said a child’s support in navigating the health system may be part of the reason.
