Patients with high blood pressure are advised to limit sodium in their diet, but a new study found they’re doing the opposite. Researchers at Rutgers Medical School found sodium intake among blood pressure patients increased significantly since 1999 to an average of more than 3,000 milligrams a day, which is about twice what doctors recommend.

For people with heart failure, winter can be the deadliest season. A study in Detroit found patients are more likely to be hospitalized and more likely to die during the colder months. Researchers said lower temperatures can increase both heart rate and blood pressure which may be factors in heart failure.

College students who party too much may see their grades drop. A Connecticut hospital tracked more than 1,100 students for two years. Those who consumed medium to high levels of alcohol and marijuana had a consistently lower GPA.
