Prescriptions drugs often used for treating pain and inflammation have been linked to an increased risk of heart failure. A study in the BMJ investigated anti-inflammatory drugs, including ibuprofen and naproxen. Researchers connected the painkillers to a higher risk of being admitted to the hospital for heart failure.

Mothers who deliver their babies by c-section are at an elevated risk for infection. Research in the New England Journal of Medicine has found that adding azithromycin to the standard antibiotic regimen cuts infection rates by 50%. The study said the extra dose also reduces hospital re-admissions after a c-section.

The epidemic of childhood obesity has caused more children to suffer from high blood pressure. Now researchers are finding that those kids perform worse on cognitive tests. A study in the Journal of Pediatrics looked at children between ages 10 and 18. Those with hypertension scored lower on memory tests, verbal skills and processing speed.
