A new study suggested antibiotic treatment is safe and effective in most cases of acute appendicitis in children. Doctors in China found the non-surgical approach successful in 90 percent of cases involving uncomplicated disease. 

Cardiologists recommend U.S. schools step up when it comes to life-saving defibrillators on campus. Doctors said the devices increase student survival in cases of sudden cardiac arrest, but only seventeen out of 50 states require them.  

Researchers report progress in developing the first rapid blood test to diagnose and assess tuberculosis infections. Doctors said it may eventually help combat TB infections worldwide and cut down on false negatives.
