Healthcast, Blood Pressure Readings In and Out of the Doctor’s Office

Normal blood pressure readings taken at the doctor’s office or clinic may be masking high blood pressure. Doctors in New York found about 16-percent of healthy adults actually registered higher on readings taken outside medical offices during a patient’s typical day.

Australian researchers said people who drink even small amounts of alcohol on a regular basis are at risk of an irregular heartbeat. They tracked nearly 1 million people for a dozen years and found even a few drinks a week can affect the heart’s electrical system.

Physicians at Johns Hopkins looking at dental care and the aging found only 12-percent of Medicare patients have some form of dental insurance. Fewer than half visited a dentist in the previous year.
