New research has linked long naps to a condition that is bad for your heart. Researchers at the University of Tokyo found people who napped 40 minutes or longer had an increased risk for metabolic syndrome. People with the condition have excess fat and increased blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels. The National Sleep Foundation recommends 20 to 30 minute naps.

Vitamin C may help protect against a leading cause of blindness. London researchers found patients who ate foods rich in vitamin C cut their risk of developing cataracts. Scientists say their study is the first to show that diet and lifestyle may have a bigger role than genetics when it comes to cataracts.

Smartphones are helping heart attack patients lose weight. A Mayo Clinic study has found patients who used cell phone diet apps combined with rehabilitation were likely to lose weight faster. Patients who exercised also tended to have fewer reoccurring heart problems.
