New research has found obese people who have coronary artery bypass surgery are three times more likely to get an infection shortly after surgery. The study in the Journal of the American Heart Association also found that they were more likely to stay in the hospital longer.

A pilot program to reduce catheter use and urinary tract infections in hospitals seems to be working. A study in the New England Journal of Medicine found hospitals that took part in the program saw UTI rates drop by a third. Overall, catheter use was also down. The program includes better monitoring and improved infection prevention techniques.

A new study has found long term marijuana use is linked to periodontal disease. Researchers from Arizona State University have suggested that marijuana users may brush and floss less than other people. This study did not find any other physical health problems associated with marijuana use.
