Combining radiation with chemotherapy prolongs survival among certain brain cancer patients. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic found patients with grade 2 gliomas who received both therapies survived an average of five extra years. Grade 2 gliomas are a rare but deadly type of brain tumor.
New research from the American Heart Association found the factors associated with good cardiovascular health may also protect the kidneys. Researchers followed patients for 22 years. They found those who did not smoke, exercised regularly and maintained a healthy weight and blood sugar levels had a lower risk of developing kidney disease.
People who eat fresh fruit every day are at lower risk of having a heart attack or stroke, according to a seven year study of half a million people in China. Fresh fruit consumption is low in China. Researchers found people who ate fresh fruit daily — mostly apples or oranges– lowered their cardiovascular risk by a third.
