Scientists said a new ingredient added to some baby formula helps infants support their immune system more like breastfed babies. The study found breast milk is best for babies, but formulas that add special probiotics found in human milk provide more immune health benefits.

A new United Kingdom study recommends screening children in order to save their parents from heart attacks. The test looks for a genetic condition that is the primary inherited cause of early heart disease. If it’s found in the child, it means one parent carries the gene as well, and allows both parents to receive needed treatment.

A first-of-its-kind tool helps doctors predict whether a victim with a gunshot wound to the head or other penetrating injury will survive. Researchers reviewed ten years of data from trauma centers, then developed the tool based on factors they discovered were associated with survival. The device has a 96% accuracy.
