A team of U.S. researchers studied the eating habits of 90,000 nurses over 20 years. They found consuming a lot of fruit during adolescence was linked to a 25% lower risk of breast cancer in middle age. Apples, bananas and grapes appeared to have the greatest benefit.
Danish researchers looked at the health effects of drinking on postmenopausal women. They found increasing alcohol intake later in life was associated with an increase in breast cancer risk but a decrease in heart disease risk.
New research at the University of Southern California has shown that there’s been an overall drop in stroke hospitalizations but an increase among young people and African Americans. Doctors believe preventative efforts are working with seniors but urge people of all ages and backgrounds to learn about ways to prevent stroke.
