A new study has found that overweight and obese adults under the age of 50 who eat a diet rich in whole grains may be at lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic tested two groups of overweight adults. One group ate a diet rich in whole grains. The other ate refined products. Scientists reported people in the ‘whole grain’ group lost weight and significantly lowered their blood pressure.
Opiate painkillers may not be addictive, according to research from American College of Surgeons. The research has shown only about 1% of trauma patients were still taking prescription opiates or opioids one year after they were released from the hospital. Researchers did find that age, marital and socio-economic status and length of hospital stay are risk factors for prolonged opiate use after severe injury.
