Healthcast, How Your Child’s Bedtime Can Affect Their Weight

Putting preschoolers to bed early can lower their risk of obesity as teenagers. That’s the finding of Ohio State researchers who found children who go to bed by 8:00 p.m. are far less likely to become obese. They said children who went to bed at 9:00 p.m. or later doubled their likelihood of obesity.

If you struggle with losing weight on certain diets, it might not be you. Blame it on genetics! Researchers tested mice with four different genetic strains to see how they responded to four different diets– a traditional Japanese diet, Mediterranean diet, high-fat, low-carb diet and a typical western diet. They found the mice each had varying responses to the diets.


If you are overweight or obese, your risk of dying prematurely is higher. Researchers from Harvard University and the University of Cambridge found the more extra pounds you have, the greater the risk. But being too thin is also not healthy.  The research found underweight people also had a higher risk of dying early.
