Many obese young adults are not aware that they’re at an increased risk for chronic kidney disease. Researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine said between 6% and 11% of obese young adults have elevated levels of a protein in their urine, which signals their kidneys aren’t functioning normally. The authors said very few of them were told they had a heightened risk for developing kidney disease.

New research has shown that anemia can have a negative impact on patients with traumatic brain injuries, according to a study from the University of Missouri. Anemia is a condition where there is a shortage of red blood cells, which reduces the oxygen flow to vital organs. Previous studies have found about half of patients hospitalized with traumatic brain injuries are anemic.
