More young women are now having a few cigarettes a day. Researchers from the University of Texas at Austin found while overall smoking rates were down, there had been a rise in the number of women who smoked five or fewer cigarettes a day. Light smokers, they said, were usually under age 20, had some college education and were less likely to be married.

The odds are against obese people trying to lose large amounts of body fat. A new study in London found only one in 210 obese men and one in 124 obese women can get to a normal body weight. Doctors said losing five to ten percent of your body weight could have significant health benefits, which is often recommended as a weight loss target.

New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed more than 70 percent of adults with existing heart problems or a history of stroke take low dose aspirin. Most of those patients reported they took aspirin to prevent heart attacks. Health experts said people should consult with their doctor before starting an aspirin regimen.
