Women who have high blood pressure late in pregnancy are significantly more likely to give birth to underweight or stillborn babies. The study is in the American Heart Association’s journal, Hypertension. Researchers said women who experienced the biggest rise in blood pressure were more than twice as likely to deliver a small baby.
Young adults who get easily stressed are at greater risk of developing high blood pressure later in life. Researchers in Sweden also found men who had a low tolerance for stress and were overweight were three times more likely to develop high blood pressure.
A new study has found that radiation after surgery improves survival for women with ductal carcinoma in situ. Researchers in Boston looked at thousands of women who had the non-invasive form of breast cancer. They found women who had a higher chance of recurrence based on age and tumor size lowered their risk of dying by nearly 70%, if they had radiation in addition to surgery. Women with a low chance of recurrence didn’t see a benefit to radiation.
