Healthcast, Possible Gender Gap In Cardiac Arrest Care

A new study has found women are less likely than men to receive life-saving procedures when having a heart attack. Hospital data has shown women are 25% less likely to receive coronary angiography. They are also 29% less likely to have angioplasty when in cardiac arrest. New York researchers were unable to pinpoint a reason.

Black people who have heart rhythm problems have nearly double the risk of stroke and heart failure than people of other races, according to new research at the University of Pittsburgh. Doctors said the findings should put a new focus on stroke prevention and heart health for blacks with heart rhythm issues.


Researchers at the University of North Carolina said smokers are not aware of the toxic chemicals in cigarettes. They suggested that the Food and Drug Administration expand its messaging about the dangers to get smokers to quit and keep others from starting
