The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has awarded $6.8 million to 11 public health organizations in their fight against Zika. Federal officials expect the organizations will help identify new cases, track mosquitoes and increase public awareness about how to avoid the mosquito-borne virus.

An international team of researchers has said excess weight and obesity can lead to cancer of the stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, ovary, brain, blood and thyroid. The findings, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, are a review of more than 1,000 studies. In 2002, the same group of cancer researchers found sufficient evidence that linked weight gain to cancer of the colon, esophagus, kidney, breast and uterus.

A new study has found that fish oil supplements may be able to reverse the effects of a high-fat diet. Brazil researchers conducted their study on mice that had been fed fatty food for a month. The mice that also consumed fish oil weighed less and were less likely to develop type 2 diabetes.
