Migraine and tension-type headaches may share genetic links with irritable bowel syndrome, according to a new study presented by the American Academy of Neurology. More than half of patients with migraines, and over a quarter of patients with tension headaches, also had IBS. Researchers said patients with IBS and headaches had at least one gene that differed from healthy people.
New research has shown that children with asthma who are sent home after a hospital visit with their prescriptions medications make fewer visits back to the emergency room. Boston University created a program that makes sure asthma medications are delivered to hospital rooms after they learned that almost 40% of pediatric patients were not able to get their prescriptions filled in a timely manner.
Students who do physical activities while learning math and spelling scored higher on tests, compared to students who were sitting at desks. The study in Pediatrics looked at nearly 500 second and third grade students and found the score increases in the active group were equal to four months of learning.
