Healthcast, Warnings About A Popular Painkiller And Kids

Pediatricians are urging parents and doctors to stop prescribing codeine to kids. The American Academy of Pediatrics has found evidence that links the drug to deadly breathing reactions. Doctors said children metabolize the drug faster than adults and may experience dangerous reactions.

Government researchers have linked depression to gestational diabetes. Scientists said women who feel depressed during the first two trimesters almost double their chance of developing gestational diabetes. The risk is even higher for depressed pregnant women who are obese.

Now a new study in Pediatrics has suggested that babies fed this way are not more likely to choke than babies fed the traditional way. But researchers remind parents not to offer foods considered a choking hazard.
