Bicycling may be a key to keeping diabetes away. Danish researchers followed more than 50,000 people between the ages of 50 and 65. They found those who regularly rode a bike had a 20% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
The success of bariatric surgery may depend on where you have it performed. A review in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons said patients who have the weight-loss operations at non-accredited facilities are more likely to experience serious complications and more than twice as likely to die compared to patients at accredited surgical centers.
Scientists said they have figured out why artificial sweeteners can increase appetite. Researchers in Australia said chronic consumption of artificial sweeteners fool the brain to expect the energy that comes from natural sugar. When it does not come, the brain demands more calories to make up the difference.
