A new study has found that a sudden drop in blood pressure when quickly standing up is linked to a higher risk of developing dementia. Researchers followed over 6,000 elderly and healthy people for 22 years. They said participants with this particular type of low blood pressure, called orthostatic hypotension, got less blood pushed to their brains which can lead to brain dysfunction over time.
A national survey of nearly 38,000 people has found that more than half of adults take dietary supplements. Researchers said that number has remained stable for 13 years. They found multivitamin use dropped, vitamin D supplement use nearly tripled and use of fish oil supplements significantly increased.
Running repairs the brain, according to a Canadian study. Researchers working with mice discovered a molecule that is triggered by running. They said it helps to heal the protective coating that surrounds and insulates nerve fibers in the brain.
