U.S. health officials will know this week the effectiveness of the season’s flu shot. A CDC report said one out of every 13 visits to the doctor is for flu symptoms. That ties with the highest level seen in the U.S. during the 2009 swine flu pandemic.
A new study in the journal Pediatrics finds there’s been little change since 1999 in the number of sudden infant deaths. In the 1990’s, the number of SIDS cases dropped sharply after an educational campaign urging parents to put babies to sleep on their backs.
Doing physical activity before school has big benefits for children. Massachusetts researchers tracked elementary and middle school students who participated in a 12-week physical activity program before school and found they lost weight and improved their social and emotional wellness.
