The CDC said about 3,500 babies die each year in the U.S. because of sleep-related causes including sudden infant death syndrome and accidental suffocation. The agency said about 20-percent of mothers reported placing their baby to sleep on their side or stomach and 40-percent reported using soft bedding in the baby’s sleep area. Both go against doctor recommendations.
Sleeping longer at night may lead to a healthier diet. Researchers at King’s College London conducted a study and found that participants who extended their sleep for a week reported consuming less added sugars.
Mothers who took a lot of acetaminophen early in their pregnancies are more likely to have daughters who experience language delay. Researchers at Mount Sinai said the delay, which is defined as fewer than 50 words at age two and a half, was only present in girls, not boys.
