Doctors want epinephrine to be the first line of defense when children are suffering a severe allergic reaction. A new study examined more than 400 patient records. It found that among kids arriving at the hospital with anaphylaxis, fewer than half had been treated with an epi-pen, even if they had one at home.

New research raised concerns about the use of antibiotics during pregnancy. The study at the University of Chicago used mice to test the effects of medications.  It found when antibiotics are used late in pregnancy or during nursing, they may increase the babies’ risk of developing inflammatory bowel disease. 

An act of generosity could lead to a happier life. A team of international researchers found even promising to behave generously activates areas of the brain associated with happiness. The study found people who act only out of self interest are less happy.
