New research finds life expectancy in the U.S. increased by two years to 78 years and eight months in 2015, but the increased use of opioids helped reduce the gains.  A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found opioid deaths more than tripled in the U.S. between 2000 to 2015, slightly lowering the life expectancy rate among non-Hispanic white individuals.

Obese men planning to conceive children may want to consider losing weight. A new study of nearly 1,300 men revealed obesity is associated with lower volume of semen, sperm count, concentration and other sperm defects. 

Senior citizens with type 2 diabetes are more likely to suffer bone fractures than those who don’t have the disease. Researchers reviewed high resolution bone scanning data of 1,000 seniors over a period of three years. They determined those with diabetes showed defects in the dense outer surface of their bones, making them more susceptible to fractures.
