A diet rich in omega-6 fats may help prevent type 2 diabetes. Research in a Lancet journal analyzed studies from around the world and found people with the highest levels of the major omega 6 fat were less likely to develop diabetes. Omega 6 is found in nuts, soybeans, and sunflower oils.

Most strokes are caused by risk factors that can be controlled, like high blood pressure and cholesterol. Despite efforts to prevent and screen for those factors, a new study found they are on the rise among people with strokes. Research by the American Academy of Neurology found 95 percent of stroke patients had one or more factors. 

Public health researchers are watching the explosive rise of what’s known as heat-not-burn tobacco. The new type of cigarettes heat tobacco leaves to 500 degrees to produce an aerosol you can inhale. Based on the increase in Google searches, a study at San Diego State University predicts heat-not-burn tobacco may become more popular than e-cigarettes.
