Researchers at the University of Texas have developed a handheld probe that can identify cancerous tissue during surgery. So far it’s been 96 percent accurate in testing. Scientists hope the device will one day help surgeons remove all malignant cells and reduce the risk of cancer recurrence.
A new report found eating three servings of whole grains a day can reduce the risk the colorectal cancer by 17 percent. Harvard Researchers also found being obese, eating large amounts of red meat, and consuming two or more alcoholic drink per day can also increase the chance of developing colon cancer.
Cholesterol lowering drugs may help patients with liver disease. Researchers in Denmark found patients with cirrhosis of the liver due to alcohol had a lower risk of dying prematurely than patients not using statins.
