Drinking hot tea is linked to a substantially increased risk of developing esophageal cancer, but only in people who also drink alcohol excessively and smoke cigarettes. Researchers in China found the risk was five-times greater for that population.
New recommendations from a federal advisory committee called for adults 50 years and older to get the new shingles vaccine called Shingrix. The vaccine was approved in 2017. Adults 60 and older are advised to get either Shingrix or the older vaccine known as Zostavax, although the panel said Shingrix is preferred. Shingles is a painful rash. It becomes more common with age.
New evidence that noise from planes, trains, and automobiles may increase the risk of heart disease. A new report in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology said traffic-related noise can induce a stress response, which increases hormone levels, and that can lead to the development of hypertension and diabetes.
