New research shows the Zika virus was likely circulating in the Americas months before the first cases were detected. A new analysis from MIT and Harvard scientists suggested Zika was spreading in Brazil in February 2014, a year before the first infections were reported.
Local transmission of Zika started in Florida months before the first case was confirmed, according to researchers at Florida Gulf Coast University. They also said it wasn’t a single case that introduced the virus but rather at least four separate transmissions.
Too little sleep may increase the risk of death for patients at risk for heart disease and diabetes. A study in the Journal of the American Heart Association found people who have several risk factors including high blood pressure and cholesterol are twice as likely to die of heart disease or stroke if they don’t get at least six hours of sleep.
