Healthcast : Rate of People Who Quit Smoking

Researchers said the rate of people who quit smoking rose for the first time in 15 years. The University of California San Diego study showed the rate rose to 5.6 in 2014 and 2015, up from 4.5 percent. That added up to about 350,000 people who quit. The study suggested the use of e-cigarettes is helping people kick the habit.

The rates of binge drinking, impaired driving, and alcohol related deaths are finally falling for college students,. That’s according to new research in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs. But a national task force found young adults ages 18 to 24 who are not in college are still binge drinking more. Researchers said interventions and education on binge drinking at colleges are helping.

Australian researchers said it’s important to factor in recovery time after lifting weights when mixing weight and endurance training. They said fatigue from a 40 to 60 minute weight training session can last for several days, as opposed to about 24 hours for endurance training like running.
