Blood thinning drugs may be effective in protecting against dementia. Research in the European Heart Journal tracked nearly half a million patients with atrial fibrillation. Those using blood thinners to prevent strokes also had a 29 percent lower risk of developing dementia.
Researchers said there needs to be more accurate single-cell testing of breast tumors. Cancer biologists at the University of Cincinnati said there are multiple cell types within a tumor and that they may respond differently to treatment. They’re calling for screening of individual cells, in order to catch cancer subtypes within the tumor.
A national survey of American teenagers found that over the past decade they have become far less likely to abuse alcohol, nicotine and drugs. The report found substance abuse disorders dropped by half, along with a sharp decline in delinquent behaviors, such as fighting and stealing.
