A new pill to treat high blood pressure showed promising results. Researchers in Australia said all 18 patients in their trial had their blood pressure drop in four weeks. The drug combines four common blood pressure medications. Doctors said larger studies are needed.
 
Amphetamines such as speed, ice and ecstasy can accelerate the aging of the heart. Research in the British Medical Journal showed prolonged use impacts men and women the same and can increase the risk of stroke or heart attack.
 
Scientists in California made a discovery that could eventually slow down ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. They’ve identified a molecule that targets a gene linked to the disease. Researchers hope their study leads to new treatment.
