Healthcast : World Kidney Day

It’s World Kidney Day and researchers found women are much more likely to donate a kidney than men. Data from Europe showed 36-percent of women who are suitable donors give their kidney to their husband, but only 7-percent of men who are suitable donate to their wife.

Breast cancer screening guidelines may delay diagnosis for African American, Hispanic and Asian women. Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital said current guidelines are based on studies of mostly white women and that guidelines need to look at racial differences in how breast cancer develops and how aggressive it can be in different women.

There’s more evidence vitamin D may help protect against some cancers. A large study of Japanese adults showed higher vitamin D levels were associated with a lower risk of cancer in men and women, but researchers said more studies are needed.
