Exposure to lead may be linked to over 250,000 premature deaths from cardiovascular disease every year, according to a study published in The Lancet Public Health journal. Researchers followed people for almost 20 years and found exposure to lead in fuel, paint, and plumbing decades earlier affects middle age and older adults.
A new study found nearly half of breast cancer patients are missing out on genetic testing, and of those get it, fewer than two-thirds met with a counselor to understand the testing before surgery. Michigan researchers said doctors are not recommending testing or counseling enough.
Mayo Clinic researchers found genetic heart diseases cause only 5 percent of SIDS deaths, far fewer than previously thought. They said more SIDS research is needed and surviving family members may no longer need genetic testing.
