Heart of Lubbock Neighborhood Association is ready to put all available hands to work on a major springtime improvement project. Heart of Lubbock will sponsor a neighborhood-wide cleanup on Saturday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to noon. Headquarters will be the Historic Redeemer Lutheran Church at 2221 Avenue W. The City of Lubbock Solid Waste Department will put roll-offs on the parking lot there to collect throw-away items brought in from streets, alleys, and yards in the area bounded by 19th and 34th streets, Avenue Q, and University Avenue.

Residents of the neighborhood are encouraged to bring large and small items to the roll-offs or to request help, if needed. Prohibited items are tires, shingles, motor oil, car batteries, liquid waste. Industrial waste, commercial waste, hazardous waste, air conditioners, and CFCs. Volunteers, invited from Texas Tech and throughout the community, are needed along with pickup trucks and trailers. They’re asked to meet at the church at 8 a.m.

And here’s a special incentive for them: Cleanup officials are looking for the best piece of trash—most valuable or most unusual. The winner will be selected at the roll-off site at noon and will receive a gift certificate.
