“May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the theme for this month is life with a mental illness and so mental Health America which is a nationwide association has sponsored this theme. People are encouraged to go to social media and share their personal experiences with mental illness,” said Covenant Psychologist Shena Smith.
“And there’s a hashtag that they can use, the hashtag is mental illness feels like. And the goal with this is to really increase understanding and awareness of what it’s really like to experience mental health,” said Smith. “There’s a lot of misperceptions, misunderstandings of what mental illness is like and so the hope is by sharing personal experiences that people will be there for support that goes with it.
“We hope by sharing this message people start sharing the message about mental health and reach out to people experiencing it and get the help they can.”
