Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a house fire just before noon on Thursday in the 4300 block of 61st Street (61st and Quaker Avenue).
LFR said, “[Firefighters] arrived to find a back porch fully involved with fire in the kitchen and attic also.”
Lieutenant Michael Loftin with the Fire Marshal’s Office said combustibles were too close to a heat lamp which was clamped to a plastic dog house,
“We’ve seen other fires in the past where they’ve had heat lamps,” Loftin said. “The actual lamp clamp can slip.”
He said such lamps can fall over on combustibles. LFR said no one was home at the time and no one was injured. It was ruled an accidental fire.
The Red Cross was called to take care of the occupants of the home.
Firefighters also noticed a power line down near the home. LP&L said the house fire damaged the power line at the back of the house. An LP&L crew removed it and the home’s electric meter “as a safety precaution.”
LFR released the following statement:
