Prom season is upon us and it’s something most teenage girls look forward too for a long time.

But not everyone gets the chance to enjoy these memories.

Three Lubbock Christian Juniors are doing everything they can so girls all across the South Plains get to have the prom of their lives.

“We have a lot of dresses that we need to give away,” explains volunteer Karlee Combest. “We have over 1,500 dresses.”

Over the past year Combest along with Hanna and Halle Farris have been working long hours getting everything ready for Prom Queen.

“Prom Queen is an organization to give dresses to girls who can’t afford a dress or who doesn’t get the privilege of going out and buying a dress,” Combest explains.

“It’s just been so much fun for us to be a part of it and a blessing to us,” Halle Farris explains. “We take a picture with them and they’re so happy. They have the biggest smile and some of them cry. It’s so awesome to be a part of it and see how grateful they are.”

These girls get to experience prom even if they can’t afford it.

“We try and give them basically everything they need for prom, hair tips, makeup tips,” says Combest.

“Not only do they get a dress but they get self worth,” explains Hanna Farris. “We really want them to know they’re beautiful and they’re valued. We want them to just believe in themselves.”

Girl power that these girls hope will resonate for years to come.

“This night is a blessing because it doesn’t just affect them, it affects us in such a way that you really see God’s work and it really shows through everything,” Combest explains.

Donations are still needed for this year’s Prom Queen event on March 24, 2016.

They have enough dresses but are in need of accessories like handbags, jewelry, makeup, and shoes.

You can drop off donations for Prom Queen by Friday March 18th at any Aim Bank location, Wentz Orthodontics at 4013 84th Street, Hillside Christian Church at 6202 Milwaukee Avenue or The Lubbock Dream Center at 1111 30th Street.
