When you start asking Leslie Moss where she’s volunteered, it’s more like asking her where she hasn’t volunteered.
“I’ve done everything from sorority at Texas Tech, I volunteer at my church, I was on Children’s Council at Covenant, I’m a sustaining member of the Junior League, I’m also involved in Big Brothers, Big Sisters,” Moss says.
But there’s one place that will always have a place in her heart.
And you’ll find her there every Wednesday.
“Hope Lodge is established for people going through cancer treatment a place for them and their caregiver to stay,” Moss explains. “And it doesn’t cost them a penny.”
And most of the time she’s doing crafts in one special room.
A room named after her friend’s daughter who lost her battle to cancer.
“We named the room after Tori a year or two ago,” Moss says. “We’re paying forward what Tori wanted us to do.”
“The thing about Hope Lodge is it’s not about if you can pay or not pay, it’s about camaraderie and it’s about community,” Moss says. “It’s about we’re all in the same boat here. We’ve all got our struggles and challenges and it doesn’t really matter.”
And Moss says that’s why she loves volunteering and will continue to give back until she can’t give anymore.
“I think our world needs more compassion,” Moss said. “It’s not about winning awards and it’s not about being on TV. It’s about knowing that that’s really our charge from God. That we should find our way to do it, small, big, anytime.”
